The Bee Kind Witch Apothecary only uses raw beeswax that is ethically sourced as a by-product from small local honeybee hives. These hives are personally inspected to ensure the bees have the best possible quality of life, using natural ‘balanced bee-keeping’ which promotes a bee centred approach to hive management. Their hives are on organically-managed land and their beekeeper does not use any unnatural toxins or products. These bees are humanely cared for and eat honey along with some natural gourmet supplements. The marvellous little honeybees are rewarded for all their hard work with plenty of love and care to see them through the hard Scottish winter months. The raw beeswax is ethically harvested and rendered by hand to be recycled with love and transformed into beautiful eco-friendly and natural 100% pure cosmetic and food grade beeswax.

What is it: Beeswax is also known as Cera Alba. It is essentially a natural form of wax which is made by honey bees. The wax is secreted from glands in their bodies before being chewed up and discarded within the hive. It does not go to waste however as worker bees collect and use it to strengthen the cells of the hive. It is basically a building material for bees but it serves another purpose in that beeswax also protects the hive and newborn bees from infections and other unwanted contamination. Beeswax mainly consists of fatty acids, esters and a variety of long chain alcohols.
